Australia, known for its abundant renewable energy (RE) resources and significant electricity price fluctuations, faces a growing demand for grid stability alongside economic viability. To address the potential risks of grid instability caused by the high influx of variable RE, Australia is projected to become one of the fastest-growing energy storage markets globally. According to BloombergNEF (BNEF), the country’s cumulative energy storage capacity is expected to reach up to 28 GWh by 2030. However, Australia's maritime climate, marked by high temperatures and humidity during summer, presents challenges for thermal management and the safety of storage systems.

At the recently concluded Energy Storage Summit 2025 in Sydney, TrinaStorage launched its latest energy storage system, the Elementa 2 Pro series, designed with advanced features tailored to Australia’s regional conditions. An upgraded version of the Elementa 2 series, the Elementa 2 Pro offers enhanced efficiency, flexibility, and safety, according to the company. This new system features ultra-performance battery cells with 3.2 V and 314 Ah capacity in a 416S12P configuration, delivering up to 5.015 MWh of storage capacity at 1,500 V DC.

Efficiency Advancements

The Elementa 2 Pro system incorporates 314 Ah battery cells that support up to 15,000 cycles, an improvement over the 12,000 cycles offered by the previous Elementa 2 series. This enhancement extends the system’s lifespan, reduces lifecycle costs, and shortens the return on investment (ROI) period. Energy density – an essential metric for battery energy storage systems (BESS) – has been improved by up to 12%, thanks to flexible installation options that support side-by-side layouts with a top-mounted chiller.

In line with Australia’s climate, the system features an intelligent hybrid air-liquid cooling system that maintains an internal temperature difference within 2.5°C, reducing average auxiliary power consumption by up to 30%, as explained by TrinaStorage. Additionally, the system’s ambient operating temperature range of up to 55°C further enhances energy utilization efficiency.

Safety & Reliability

In terms of safety and reliability, the Elementa 2 Pro is certified for corrosion resistance up to C5 and features IP67-rated dustproof and waterproof battery modules, designed to withstand harsh Australian environments, including salt spray and moisture exposure. The system also includes advanced fire mitigation and suppression mechanisms combined with a sandwich cabin structure, providing up to 2 hours of fire protection to minimize safety risks.

For urban installations, the system’s operating noise level has been optimized to as low as 70 dB, meeting regional environmental regulations.

"The energy storage sector is evolving rapidly, and reliability, safety, and efficiency have never been more critical. With the launch of the Elementa 2 Pro 5 MWh, TrinaStorage is setting a new benchmark for large-scale battery energy storage solutions in Australia," said Dr. Leo Zhao, Head of Energy Storage at Trina Solar Asia Pacific.
