UtmoLight has commissioned its 1 GW perovskite solar module production line in China
The factory has the capacity to produce close to 1.8 million of ultra-large-sized perovskite solar modules annually
Currently, their full area efficiency stands at 16.1%, which the company targets to scale up to 20% this year
China has become home to what’s being termed the world’s 1st GW-scale perovskite solar module production line, according to local technology company UtmoLight, which has commissioned its 1 GW line in Wuxi region.
As the line ramps up to full production, it is expected to produce about 1.8 million ultra-large-sized perovskite solar modules annually.
The 1 GW production line rolled off its 1st 2.8 m2 perovskite module with a power output of 450 W. UtmoLight says the full area efficiency of these modules is 16.1% which is a ‘global record’ for the largest and most powerful perovskite module.
In 2025, it targets to achieve a mass production efficiency of 20% with continuous improvements.
Led by Professor Nazeeruddin as its chief scientist, UtmoLight operates a 4,500 m² perovskite R&D and innovation center. It started with a 150 MW pilot production line in December 2022. The company claims to have applied for more than 400 core patents out of which over 70% are invention patents.
“Through collaborative development of production line equipment, innovative development of processes and material systems, we have successfully transformed perovskite technology from a 'potential stock in photovoltaics' to a 'new quality productivity' step by step,” said UtmoLight Co-founder and President Dr. Yu Zhenrui.
UtmoLight says this GW factory will promote the large-scale application of perovskite modules in ground-mounted power stations, distributed generation PV, BIPV and other scenarios.
In October 2024, a China Photovoltaic Testing Center (CPVT) report confirmed that UtmoLight’s perovskite modules installed at its demonstration site demonstrated stable power output for 3 continuous months without noticeable degradation. These generated 16.14% more power/W than PERC modules (see China Solar PV News Snippets: Kiwa PI Berlin At TaiyangNews Reliable PV Module Design Conference & More).
