  • EGP's 3Sun has offered a sneak peak into its soon to be expanded Catania fab products
  • At the Intersolar Europe 2023, it unveiled 3 HJT variants, all of them using 3SUN CORE-H technology
  • 3Sun says all its modules are 100% made in Italy and do not use lead or fluorine

Enel Green Power (EGP), Italy's solar manufacturing arm 3Sun introduced to the world its 3 heterojunction (HJT) solar panels made entirely in Italy at the Intersolar Europe 2023 without lead or fluorine in their production process, and said these will be commercially available in 2024.

The product 3SUN M40 is the base module with a capacity of 440W to 480W, targeted towards residential and commercial/industrial rooftops.

A premium high-end product is how the company describes 3SUN M40 BOLD variant. It promises an output of 430W to 470W, and efficiency of up to 24.5%. This one will cater to distributed generation while ensuring aesthetics.

The 3rd module in the series 3SUN B60 is intended for the utility scale segment and offers between 640W to 680W output and efficiency of up to 24%. 3Sun says it comes with a glass-glass configuration and white grid between cells to enable better light reflection. It has a symmetrical cell design that allows a bifaciality factor of 95%, almost 20% higher than competitors, it adds.

What's common to all these variants is the 3SUN CORE-H technology that brings together crystalline silicon with amorphous silicon layers. These aspects make the modules more efficient, durable and competitive, according to 3Sun.

The company is offering a 30-year performance warranty on the modules claiming these will maintain more than 91.8% performance after 30 years.

"This is a new milestone for 3SUN that comes to fruition with the presentation to the solar industry of the new photovoltaic modules that will be produced in our Catania Gigafactory," commented Eliano Russo, CEO of 3SUN.

EGP is expanding its 200 MW Catania HJT fab to 400 MW by September 2023, and later to full capacity of 3 GW annually by July 2024.

In September 2022, the company unveiled the 1st look of its new HJT module with a prototype at the 8th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC) (see Enel Green Power Unveils Heterojunction Solar Module).

Perovskite silicon tandem (PST) is another next generation technology the company is interested in. Recently, with CEA-INES it reported a certified cell efficiency of 27.1% in a 9 sq. cm cell (see Another Tandem Solar Cell Efficiency Record).
