The Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies in Algeria has officially launched the competitive process for Solar 1000 MW project. As the title suggests, it requires establishing 1 GW solar PV capacity across Algeria through project companies.
Selected developers will be provided sites for project companies through the Algerian government's renewable energy company Shaems, Spa that's processing the bids for this round.
Winners will be expected to develop, finance, design, supply equipment, construct, operate and maintain PV projects and grid connect these. Electricity generated will be procured through power purchase agreements (PPA) for 25 years by a designated purchaser.
Projects can be set up in the range of 50 MW to 300 MW each, with the maximum cumulative capacity a single applicant can hope to win being 300 MW.
Financial offer must contain the economic model proposed by the tenderer which was used to calculate the price per kWh of each power station, the ministry has specified.
Last date to submit technical and financial offers is April 30, 2022. Tender details are available on the ministry's website.
In November 2021, the ministry had indicated it plans to launch the competitive process for Solar 1000, for which it had identified 11 sites (see Algeria Preps For 1 GW Solar Tender).
