  • APDCL has launched 2 separate tenders to seek grid connected solar power from projects within the state
  • The 100 MW AC capacity will need to be developed as floating solar plants on various water bodies under Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd
  • 50 MW AC capacity will be ground mounted solar PV projects with a ceiling tariff of INR 4.40 per kWh

The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) in India is soliciting bids from interested companies to supply power from a total of 150 MW AC grid connected solar PV projects in the state to be set up as floating and ground mounted facilities.

Of the total capacity sought, 100 MW AC will need to be established as grid connected floating solar PV facilities on build-own-operate (BOO) basis. These projects will be developed by the winners on different water bodies in the state.

Power generated will be procured by APDCL for 25 years. Bids are capped at INR 4.76 ($0.058) per kWh.

A list of Beel Fisheries under Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd where floating solar projects under this tender can be installed is available on APDCL's website. These are spread across the districts of Nagaon, Nalbari, Morigaon, Bongaigon, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Darrang, Barpeta, Cachar, Kamrup, Sonitpur, Dhubri, and Goalpara.

The other 50 MW AC tender is for grid connected PV projects, also to be developed on BOO basis as ground mounted facilities in Assam. APDCL will be the sole offtaker of power produced by these projects. Ceiling tariff is mentioned as INR 4.40 ($0.054) per kWh.

Both the tenders were launched by APDCL on November 15, 2022, and mention the last date to submit bids as December 7, 2022.

A hilly terrain, Assam is making the most of available space to expand solar energy in the state. Recently, Indian public sector undertaking (PSU) SJVN Limited entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Assam government to develop 1 GW floating solar power capacity in the state (see India PV News Snippets).
