  • The Northern Lighthouse Board has issued a tender seeking the supply of 800 solar panels

  • This volume needs to be supplied annually for a period of 4 years

  • The solar modules will be installed on remote, unmanned stations, vessels and buoys

The Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB), the general lighthouse authority (GLA) for waters surrounding Scotland and the Isle of Man, has launched a competitive solicitation process for the supply of 800 solar PV modules for 4 years on an annual basis.

It plans for these modules to be installed on remote, unmanned stations, vessels and buoys in coastal environments to supply power for marine aids to navigation (AtoN). NLB says it is essential for long-term reliable operation of the equipment at these locations.

The winners are only required for solar panel supply under the tender. These will be installed by the GLAs of the UK and Ireland, according to the UK government agency.

NLB has 208 lighthouses and 174 buoys under its operation and maintenance. It also provides radio aids to navigation.

The call was issued on February 21, 2025, and participation requests will be accepted until April 8, 2025, as per the tender notice.
