Austria’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has launched the 3rd solar PV funding call worth €8 million
The government is also promoting storage adoption to enhance grid stability and energy self-sufficiency
A 10% Made in Europe bonus is available to support the use of EU-manufactured components, including modules, inverters, and storage systems
Applicants from the 2nd round can still claim the bonus if their systems remain uncommissioned
The Austrian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism (BWET) has opened the 3rd funding call for solar PV systems, including those accompanied by energy storage systems, with a budget of €8 million.
As with the previous funding round, the current one will also feature a Made in Europe bonus. It will be available as an additional investment support of 10% for the use of components manufactured within Europe. These include solar PV modules, inverters, and power storage systems (see Austria Introduces ‘Made In Europe’ Bonus In 2nd PV Funding Call).
“We need more Made in Europe products to strengthen our industry, secure jobs, and become more independent,” said Austria’s Economic Minister, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer. “Every PV system manufactured in Europe contributes to security of supply, climate protection, and competitiveness.”
This round will also be open to submissions for the Made in Europe bonus from applicants who were unable to submit the same in the 2nd round, which has now concluded, provided the systems have not been commissioned yet.
The government is also promoting the use of storage systems as it sees these as the ‘backbone’ of a stable power grid. Their adoption is also on the rise, as indicated by the results of the last 2 rounds. According to the ministry, the 1st funding call received 5,200 applications representing close to 192 MW PV capacity and around 124 MWh storage. The numbers went up in the subsequent round, with approximately 8,800 applications coming in for 182 MW solar PV and as much as 175 MWh of storage capacity.
“In the future, we want to promote storage through regulation and incentivize its use in a way that benefits the grid. Our goal is that every PV system, if possible, will be equipped with a storage system – for greater system stability and self-sufficiency,” added Hattmannsdorfer.
Announced on October 3, 2025, applications for the 3rd funding round can be submitted till October 22, 2025. Details are available on the EAG website.
