  • Austria's BMK has completed the 3rd funding round for rooftop solar and storage systems
  • It approved over 22,000 applications that together will generate around 230,000 MWh/year
  • The 4th and the final call for this year has also been announced with October 23, 2023 as the last date for submissions

The Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) in Austria has announced the successful completion of the 3rd and launch of the 4th and last funding round for rooftop solar and storage systems for 2023.

The 3rd round attracted more than 22,000 applications for private rooftop solar systems of up to 20 kW, all of which were approved. All these projects are likely to generate around 230,000 MWh/year. BMK had announced €70 million budget for the 3rd round in August 2023 (see Austria's 3rd Funding Round Officially Opened).

Austria has been funding small-scale solar and storage system adoption with a budget of €600 million for 2023 under the Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG) and the Climate Fund.

In the previous 2 calls, the ministry approved around 120,000 applications. With the 3rd call complete, a total of over 140,000 solar power plants are being funded by the state this year.

Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler said, "The unbroken demand for our solar power funding is very pleasing. With the significantly increased funding, we were able to support all applications for private roof systems in the third round. Nothing stands in the way of an absolute record year for the expansion of solar power plants."

The 4th and the last call for this year in this category opened on October 9, 2023 to support systems of up to 1 MW capacity. The last date for submissions is October 23, 2023.

Details of the 4th funding call are available on the dedicated EAG website.
