EWA Wants 100 MW Solar Plant Established On Turnkey Basis In Southern Governorate

The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) of Bahrain has launched a tender for a solar power project with up to 100 MW installed capacity in the Al Dur region of the kingdom's Southern Governorate. 

The expected production capacity of the project can range between 90 MW and 100 MW. It needs to be set up on a turnkey basis within 18 months from the date of the tender award. 

Broad scope of work spans design, EPC, and commissioning the grid-connected project. Bidders can either be an individual company or a consortium with a cumulative turnover of at least $100 million in the last 3 financial years. 

The EWA published the call on February 5, 2024. It will accept bids till April 3, 2024 and open the same the next day. Details of the tender are available on the government's tender website.  

This project, the EWA added, is in line with the national goals to diversify Bahrain's electricity mix. The country aims to generate 5% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2025, and increase its share to 20% by 2035.
