CIL has invited bids for a 1 GW AC solar project in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district
The EPC scope includes design to commissioning with 2-year O&M works
Solar modules used must comply with ALMM List-I and List-II
State-owned coal mining group Coal India Limited (CIL) has invited bids from interested EPC contractors for the development of a 1 GW AC grid-connected solar PV project in Rajasthan.
This ground-mounted PV project will be deployed on a turnkey basis at Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s (RVUNL) 2 GW solar park in Pugal, Bikaner district. It is being executed by a CIL-RVUNL joint venture that targets to set up 4.1 GW capacity across 5 projects (see India Solar PV News Snippets).
The work involves DC overloading and performance demonstration with associated equipment and materials, along with 2 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance from the date of commissioning or operational acceptance.
Broad scope of work includes design, procurement and supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the 1 GW AC project with insurance at all stages, including insurance of PV modules. The total capacity of solar PV modules to be procured under this tender, excluding mandatory spares, is a minimum of 1.35 GW.
Solar modules to be used for this project must be listed in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-I that use solar cells as listed in the ALMM List-II for solar PV cells.
The project needs to be commissioned within 24 months from the date of commencement of the work.
The tender was launched on April 11, 2025 with May 8, 2025 as the last date for bid submission.
CIL is responsible for producing around 83% of the country’s entire coal output, with nearly 80% of its total supplies going to the power sector. The company is also diversifying into renewables with a target of 5 GW renewable energy capacity by 2028-29 on land available to its subsidiaries and in the states with solar potential. This will comprise ground-mounted solar, floating solar and hybrid renewable energy projects.
