CPS Energy has launched an RFP for up to 600 MW of solar to be procured via PPAs
New additions could raise its contracted and operational solar capacity above 1.6 GW
It also plans to launch a separate battery storage RFP by the end of 2025
CPS Energy, the San Antonio, US-based electricity utility, has invited bids to acquire up to 600 MW of additional solar energy through one or more power purchase agreements (PPAs).
This RFP is in line with the utility’s Vision 2027 generation plan, under which the company says it is committed to delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to the greater San Antonio area. The City of San Antonio targets to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
CPS launched the RFP round on November 13, 2025, with the bid submission deadline set for January 8, 2026. Submissions can be made on the Power Advocate Portal Link.
Upon completion of the RFP, CPS anticipates its operational or under-contract solar generation capacity to exceed 1.6 GW. More than 1 GW of the solar PV capacity in its portfolio is already operational.
At the end of 2025, it also plans to launch another battery storage RFP, following the 470 MW storage capacity it contracted at the end of 2024.
In February 2025, CPS entered a PPA with Ashtrom Renewable Energy to purchase close to 70% of the electricity produced by the 150 MW AC El Patrimonio Solar Project (see North America Solar PV News Snippets).
