Greece To Promote Agrivoltaics; Invites Applications

Grid operator to begin accepting applications from March 4, 2026, under new national support framework

  • Greece’s HEDNO will start accepting agrivoltaic grid connection applications from March 4, 2026

  • Submissions will be accepted until the 10th of each month as part of a national plan to promote dual use of land via agrivoltaics

  • Greece’s Energy Ministry is reportedly targeting 130 MW nationwide, with a reported cap of 10 MW per region across 13 prefectures

The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO), the Greek distribution grid operator, will start accepting applications for grid connection of agrivoltaic projects as part of a national plan to support 130 MW capacity.

Applications to secure government support can be submitted from March 4, 2026. Submissions can be made till the 10th day of each calendar month. Details are available on HEDNO’s website.

This is open to all agrivoltaic installations, irrespective of their capacity, even those with associated battery storage systems.

The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy included provisions for agrivoltaics in a draft bill submitted to the parliament for approval, which envisions the development of 130 MW of agrivoltaics capacity. According to various local media outlets, this bill allows a maximum of 10 MW to be installed per region, spread across 13 regional prefectures.

Agrivoltaic or agro-photovoltaic installations of up to 200 kW each, installed at a distance of 2.10 m above agricultural land or on greenhouse rooftops, will be permitted, as per the rules. They may be paired with battery storage with at least 1 hour of storage capacity relative to the solar capacity.

This round is open to farmers and third parties that partner with landowners to seek state support. Each can install up to 2 agrivoltaic projects. Winning projects will be eligible for a fixed tariff of €65/MWh under a fixed-price contract with renewable energy market operator DAPEEP.

Recently, Greek energy regulator RAAEY launched a 600 MW solar-plus-storage and wind projects tender under the Apollo Scheme, with price caps of €80/MWh and €75/MWh, respectively (see Greece Launches 600 MW Renewable Energy Tender Under Apollo Scheme).
