  • Hydro Tasmania launches EOI for wind and solar projects that can come online within 5 to 6 years

  • It will unlock financing and accelerate large-scale renewables across the state with offtake certainty

  • The development of Marinus Link strengthens confidence for developers planning new wind and solar investments, it adds

Hydro Tasmania has invited proposals to procure up to 1,500 GWh of renewable energy annually, from wind and solar projects across the state. The call is to meet the state’s future electricity demand.

The expression of interest (EOI) launched by the state-owned clean energy company in Australia’s Tasmania seeks selected projects to become operational within the next 5 to 6 years.

“Signing an offtake agreement with a credit-worthy party like Hydro Tasmania is an important step for wind and solar developers to secure attractive financing terms to progress their projects,” said Hydro Tasmania Executive General Manager Commercial Vedran Kovac. “It has to be commercial and stack up for Tasmanians, but working together, we can bring new energy online for the State.”

Koav added that investment in new solar and wind projects will enable existing and future energy-intensive industries to expand in the Australian state.

It also sees the certainty around Marinus Link as providing certainty for renewable energy project developers. Securing an offtake agreement is now the next piece of the puzzle, according to the company.

Marinus Link is an underground and undersea electricity transmission project that will enable the flow of wind, solar, and hydro electricity between Victoria and Tasmania.

The tender is part of Tasmania’s efforts to incentivize new renewable energy developments to meet its growing energy demands alongside hydropower, explained Hydro Tasmania, whose hydropower portfolio has been hit by a multi-year drought. It also recently finalized the key terms of an offtake agreement for the 288 MW Northern Midlands Solar Farm.

Hydro Tasmania announced the EOI on November 24, 2025. It will accept proposals till December 5, 2025.
