The Finance Ministry of Maldives has launched a tender seeking bidders to set up 11 MW to 14 MW of grid-tied solar PV capacity on 14 islands in select islands of L.Atoll, Lh. Naifaru, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, GA. Villingili & Sh. Funadhoo on design, build, finance, own, operate and transfer (DBFOOT) basis.

Pre-qualifiers of this round will move to a request for bids (RFB) round which will be launched in December 2021. Final winners will have to establish the required capacity. The Finance Ministry is prequalifying bidders on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.

This project is supported by the World Bank's Accelerating Renewable-Energy Integration & Sustainable Energy (ARISE) Project. The Government of Maldives will also set up battery storage units to accommodate PV power capacity.

It has assured of 100% off-take under power purchase agreements (PPA) with the winning developers with 10 years to 20 years validity.

Last date to submit prequalification documents is September 9, 2021, according to tender notification.

A few days back, the Finance Ministry issued a pre-qualification round for 40 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage systems for select islands to support ground mounted and floating solar power capacity (see Maldives Wants 40 MW/40 MWh Energy Storage Capacity).
