The capital city of Africa's Namibia has launched a tender seeking a 25 MW solar PV plant to be established on build, own and operate (BOO) basis through the Municipal Council of Windhoek.

The request for qualification (RFQ) document requires experienced independent power producer (IPP) developers to finance, procure, install, commission and operate the project on a build, own and operate (BOO) basis for 25 years. The council wants to develop the project on public private partnership (PPP) basis.

Last date to submit application documents is August 19, 2021 when the same will be opened, however interested bidders can get their queries answered by August 3, 2021, according to a tender announcement published by the City of Windhoek on its Facebook account.

According to a Bloomberg report, the 25 MW project is expected to cost an investment of NAD 420 million ($29 million). It said the country aims to achieve 70% renewable energy share for its power mix by 2030. Namibia has been in talks with Botswana for a 5 GW solar complex at their borders, and in April 2021 both the countries signed a memorandum of intent (MoI) to cooperate on the project (see Botswana & Namibia Sign MOI For 5 GW Solar Project).
