  • NTPC has launched a tender to seek bidders for 1.2 GW of ISTS-connected hybrid wind and solar power projects

  • It is also offering up to 600 MW of additional capacity under a greenshoe option

  • Its green energy arm is also looking to sell 100,000 carbon credits for wind and solar energy projects

India’s state-owned utility NTPC Limited has invited interested bidders for the supply of power from 1.2 GW of inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected hybrid wind and solar power projects. It is also offering a greenshoe option for an additional capacity of up to 600 MW.

To be located anywhere in India, these projects need to be executed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The request for selection (RfS) documents specify that the tender will be followed by a reverse auction.

The tender was announced on August 30, 2024, and the last date for technical as well as financial bid submission is September 24, 2024. The details are available on NTPC’s tender website

Earlier this month, NTPC’s subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Limited issued a call for sale of 100,000 carbon credits (VER) of wind and solar energy projects of the company registered under Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program.

It specified that the sale of carbon credits is open to all credible domestic companies registered and operating legally in India.

“The intended applicants are those organisations who wish to purchase the carbon credits generated by VCS registered projects of NGEL at a price discovered during domestic competitive bidding,” reads the tender document.

The VERs generated from VCS registered project activity offered for sale under the tender are 29,053 net GHG emissions reductions or removals (tCO2e) wind and solar for vintage year 2016, and 70,947 wind and solar tCO2e for 2017 from VCS registered 610 MW project.

It issued this call on August 16, 2024, for which bids can be submitted till September 12, 2024.
