NTPC Limited of India has opened a request for proposals (RFP) round for 60 MW solar PV capacity to be developed in the Republic of Cuba in its capacity as the project management consultant (PMC) for the International Solar Alliance (ISA) member nations.
ISA helps member nations implement grid connected solar PV projects under program-6 under which this tender has been launched.
NTPC is managing the project on behalf of Cuba's Unión Eléctrica de Cuba (UNE). This capacity will need to be developed in 3 blocks in Placetas, Cifuentes, Santa Clara, Sagua and Corralillo regions of Cuba's Villa Clara province.
Broad scope of work will be to build, own and operate (BOO) the project during the duration of the PPA period. Bidders shall have the option to submit a single fixed tariff for 1 or more blocks, but the tariff has to be submitted individually for each block.
Winner will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the UNE on completion of the project.
Tender was launched on May 17, 2023 with last date of bid submission being July 20, 2023, as per the RFP.
Cuba aims to install 2.1 GW solar PV capacity in the country by 2030. Through ISA program-6, Cuba will be assisted by the NTPC to implement 1.15 GW solar parks across 175 locations in 15 provinces with 150 MW/150 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS). The 60 MW tender falls under phase I of this program.
In July 2022, NTPC had launched a tender for 1.15 GW solar and 150 MW/150 MWh BESS projects in Cuba (see Tender For 1.15 GW Solar & Storage In Cuba).
