The sole buyer of power and water for all independent power producer (IPP) projects in Oman, the Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP), or Oman PWP, has launched a 500 MW tender for the Ibri III Solar IPP project.
The request for qualification (RFQ) for Nama PWP's 4th solar PV project is open only to interested developers and not to EPC contractors. Nama PWP expects the project to cost an investment of approximately OMR 155 million ($403 million). It is expected to enter commercial operations in Q4/2026.
This project will contribute to the country's target to diversify fuel sources and achieve net zero target by 2050, stated Nama PWP.
Documents for the RFQ will be available for purchase till January 20, 2024, and admitted for submission till February 19, 2024.
This is the authority's 4th solar PV project under the public private partnership mode.
Its 500 MW Ibri II PV project is already online, while the 500 MW Manah I Solar PV Project was auctioned to Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), while the 500 MW Manah II PV Plant is to be built by Sembcorp Industries and JinkoPower (see Oman Picks KOWEPO For 500 MW Solar Power Plant).
The Ibri III project is part of the agency's 7-year power outlook under which it plans to add 2 GW of IPP utility-scale PV capacity to its portfolio by 2029 (see Oman Unveils 7-Year Electricity Outlook).
