The Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) in Pakistan has launched a tender seeking to hire a consultant to conduct feasibility study for solar power projects on canal top and urban nullahs (drains) in various districts of Gujranwala division.

Selected candidate will survey and identify all lined and unlined canal parcels and distributory minor canals to understand their solar power generation potential. Such canals will be identified in each district of the division, namely Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Mandi Bahaudin, Hafizabad & Sheikhupura and complete Rakh Branch Canal Faisalabad.

Under the scope of work of this consultancy, selected consultant will be required to collect canal related data from the state irrigation department while also finding out the appropriate design of most solar PV panels and steel support structure, determining optimal project size, identifying possible power offtakers, and suggesting financial, technical and economic viability of the projects.

According to the PPDB, Punjab has one of the widest spread canal network in the region and installing solar panels on top can ensure less use of expensive land. Generated electricity can be used by nearby localities or industry.

Last date to submit bids for this tender is September 30, 2021, according to the announcement on Punjab government's e-procurement website.
