Proposals Invited For Niger’s Scaling Solar Project

• Energy Ministry in Niger has sought proposals for 50 MW solar power plant in the country
• It is being developed under the World bank's Scaling Solar program, to be located outside the capital of Niamey
• Proposals need to be submitted by Scatec, GreenYellow, Nareva Holding, Voltalia, Elsewedy Electric and Infinity Power Holding

A list of 6 shortlisted companies from around the world have been invited to submit their detailed proposals to win 50 MW solar PV project capacity in Africa's Niger under the World Bank's Scaling Solar program.

The Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies in Niger officially opened the request for proposals (RFP) round in late-December 2022.

It has sought proposals from pre-qualifiers identified as

• Norway's Scatec,
• France's GreenYellow,
• Morocco's Nareva Holding,
• France's Voltalia,
• Egypt's Elsewedy Electric, and
• Netherlands' Infinity Power Holding.

Incorporated in the Netherlands, Infinity Power Holding is a joint venture between Masdar and Infinity. These 6 companies were sifted out of 14 interested candidates to submit bids.

The 50 MW PV facility will be located on Gorou Banda plateau outside the capital of Niamey. Last date for these companies to submit their proposals to the ministry is April 19, 2023, as per the Scaling Solar website.  

Having one of the lowest electricity access rates in Sub-Saharan Africa at less than 20%, Niger has 80% of its population living in rural regions. To help the country expand its electricity access and boost solar deployment, the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation (IFC) is helping the government install 50 MW solar project under the Scaling Solar program (see 50 MW AC Scaling Solar Tender For Niger).
