American electricity utility Georgia Power has launched a 23-24 request for proposals (RFP) for 1.03 GW of new utility scale renewable resources to expand its power generation portfolio to include more diverse, reliable generation mix. Winning projects need to come online in 2023 and 2024.

Interested projects need to be greater than 3 MW in size and located in the continental US. Both renewable energy generation as well as renewable-coupled storage projects are eligible to participate in the 23-24 RFP, the company specified.

Accion Group, Inc. will be the independent evaluator and all interested companies need to register on its website to take the process forward.

Georgia Power will start accepting bids for in response to this round in Q1/2022. The 23-24 RFP is the 2nd of the 2 utility scale renewable energy solicitations from its 2019 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) under which it is free to procure power from 2 GW of utility scale renewables resources.

The utility currently has over 2.7 GW operational renewable energy capacity in its portfolio and expects to add another 2.7 GW by the end of 2024.
