With a view to encourage indigenous innovations in renewable energy and storage space, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has called for research and development (R&D) proposals for novel energy storage system (ESS) projects on pilot basis along with do-it-yourself (DIY) rooftop products with storage.
The Government of India agency wants proposals from interested applicants in the field of R&D of ESS technologies to supplement generation from different renewable energy technologies as wind, solar and hybrid wind-solar projects. The DIY component targets rooftop products with storage or any new renewable energy generation technologies.
SECI believes it will be able to facilitate development and commissioning of prototypes of novel indigenous technologies in the space of ESS, rooftop solar, data analytics and other new renewable energy related concepts. It will lay groundwork for future large-scale implementation of these technologies.
Interested applicants can submit proposals to design, install and commission project capacities of up to 500 kWh of energy storage with suitable solar power generation system. Such a project needs to be set up at a site identified by SECI while the latter will be in charge of its connectivity. Major thrust will be on demonstration of scalability of gravity based/mechanical- and green hydrogen-based ESS.
Innovative DIY rooftop products shall be deployed either at SECI establishments or any other site it identifies with main emphasis on the DIY rooftop projects with battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Scope of data analytics will comprise data acquisition, analysis of existing real time data from various SECI projects or other project developers and data presentation. SECI added that any new RE technologies can be developed and demonstrated at Investigators laboratory.
Proposals will be accepted from R&D or academic institutions including engineering colleges, public or private industries, startups recognized by the Department of Promotion and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and other organizations engaged in R&D for the promotion of new and renewable energy.
All projects will need to be executed within 1year to 2 years from the date of project being sanctioned.
Proposals will be evaluated basis criteria as relevance and quality, clarity and quantifiability of project objectives and deliverables, technical feasibility at the end of development, technology readiness level of the proposed project, and justification of project cost. SECI will fund the projects.
Last date to submit proposals is October 14, 2022 as per the call issued by SECI on September 14, 2022.
