The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has officially opened an expression of interest (EOI) round for 900 MW AC solar PV capacity to be established under phase VI of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park) in Dubai.
Like the previous phases, this one too will be built on build and operate basis as an independent power project (IPP). This phase is expected to be commissioned in phases starting from Q3/2025 with DEWA being the offtaker under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
It is open to receiving applications from suitable developers or developer consortia for project company to be incorporated in accordance with Dubai and UAE laws. Further details will be available in due course, stated DEWA.
The EOI was launched by DEWA on September 15, 2022. As per tender notification available on its website, DEWA will accept applications till October 10, 2022.
Earlier this month, DEWA announced 900 MW as the capacity of the phase VI and said it has been approached by 4 unidentified bidders for the consultancy contract (see MBR Solar Park's Phase VI To Have 900 MW Capacity).
On completion in 2030, the entire MBR Solar Pak is to have a combined 5 GW solar PV and concentrating solar power (CSP) capacity. Its current solar PV operational capacity is 1.627 GW.
