DTE Energy Invites Proposals For Wind & Solar Projects In Michigan To Achieve Carbon Reduction Goals

Detroit, US-based electricity company DTE Energy has opened a new bidding process to source over 1 GW of new renewable energy capacity in Michigan to support the achievement of the state's new renewable energy standard of 60% by 2030. 

The request for proposals (RFP) is for 1.075 GW new wind and solar projects. Selected facilities will be required to come online by March 31, 2027. 

Eligible projects need to be located within Michigan and interconnected to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) or distribution-level transmission. 

The call for 1.075 GW is aligned with the group's electricity distribution arm DTE Electric's CleanVision Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). It is also a response to the continued demand for the company's voluntary renewable energy program MIGreenPower program. 

The RFP was launched on February 23, 2024. The last date to submit bids is May 14, 2024. Details will be available on DTE's website

At present, DTE operates 20 wind parks and 33 solar parks. It aims to add 1 GW of new wind and solar capacity each year, starting from 2026. Under its future plans, the utility aims to have over 15 GW of renewable energy generation capacity by 2042. 

"Our existing wind and solar parks are reducing Michigan's carbon footprint while providing jobs, tax revenue and additional benefits to local communities across the state, and future developments will continue to grow our clean energy economy," said the company's Vice President, Renewable Sales and Project Development, Joseph Musallam.
