RenewSys India Pvt. Ltd., a well-known name in India’s PV manufacturing space that started making encapsulants 11 years ago, followed by backsheets, PV modules, and PV cells, showcased its latest product offerings at REI Expo 2024. With current annual production capacities of 1.8 GW for PV modules, 8 GW for encapsulants, and 4 GW for backsheets, the company is now venturing into TOPCon cell making with an upcoming 2.5 GW cell fabrication unit, according to Avinash Hiranandani, the vice-chairman and managing director of RenewSys. This new cell manufacturing unit is expected to be operational by the next 9 months.

During a comprehensive interview with TaiyangNews, Mr. Hiranandani highlighted the latest TOPCon PV modules, as well as various encapsulants, and backsheets at the company’s booth. He also provided a brief overview of India’s PV module and ancillary market.

PV Module

RenewSys’ latest TOPCon cell technology-based DESERV EXTREME 144X series glass-glass PV module, featuring 144 pieces of half-cut cells, was the showstopper at the show. This module can deliver a power output of up to 600 W and an efficiency of up to 23.26%. The company datasheet says the model, featuring a temperature coefficient of – 0.29%/°C, offers 8 power classes between 565 W to 600 W. This module also has a bifaciality factor of up to 80%. Measuring 2,272 x 1,133 x 35 mm and laminated with 2 mm thick front and rear PV glass, the module weighs 31.5 kg. This glass-glass module, bonded with IP68-rated potted split-type junction boxes (JB) (3 JBs connected in series), can withstand a front-side surface load of up to 5,400 Pa and a wind load capacity of up to 2,400 Pa, according to the spec sheet. Having enlisted for ALMM and certified to BIS standards, the company promotes this module for India’s utility and rooftop PV applications.

RenewSys also displayed the larger counterpart of the 144X series, the DESERV EXTREME 156X series glass-glass module at the show. This ALMM-listed and BIS-certified module, measuring 2,462 x 1,133 x 35 mm, boasts a power output of up to 650 W and an efficiency of up to 23.2%.

RenewSys offers 12 years of product and 30 years of linear power performance warranty for the aforementioned modules.

Encapsulants

The company also promoted its latest encapsulants – EVA, POE, E-NT & EPE – at the exhibition.

The CONSERV E 360 series polyolefin-based encapsulant (POE), featuring a matt-finished inside and embossed on the outside, is suitable for glass-glass and glass-backsheet PV modules, especially with HJT cells. With a width of up to 1,300 mm and a thickness range of 0.45 mm to 0.65 mm, this POE type of encapsulant offers optical transmittance of more than 91%. According to the company datasheet, this POE with a melting point of 76°C, boasts adhesion to glass and backsheet of more than 70 N/cm. The POE also has a water absorption rate of less than 0.1% and volume resistivity of more than 1 x 106. The recommended gel content of this POE is between 50 and 80.

The CONSERV E-NT UVT series POE, suitable for n-TOPCon solar cell-based PV module encapsulation, was also displayed at the company booth. Featuring an embossed orange peel texture on both sides, this encapsulant is engineered for durability in varied UV and weather conditions, with a melting point of 71°C.

Backsheet

Along with the latest PV modules and encapsulants, RenewSys displayed a wide portfolio of backsheets - Transparent, White, Black, Copper, and Aluminum – at the event.
