Bahrain Launches 3 MW AC Solar Power Project Tender

• Bahrain International Circuit has sought proposals for at least 3 MW AC solar power project
• It will be installed as car park shades on site on BOOM model to supply clean energy for 20 years
• Project is likely to enter construction during later part of 2021, and is expected to deliver enough clean energy to power the entire Formula 1 race weekend

One of the homes to Formula 1 motorsport races in the Middle East, the Bahrain International Circuit has launched a tender to set up a minimum of 3 MW AC solar power capacity, to be installed as car park shades on site.

The request for proposals (RFP) are sought from interested bidders for the grid tied project to be installed on build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) model, in return for a 20-year contract. According to the circuit management, the project is expected to deliver enough clean energy to power the entire Formula 1 race weekend.

They also expect the solar power plant to help the circuit lower its carbon footprint, while generating significant savings on overall energy costs. It will also support Formula 1's plans to have net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

Last date to submit bids is June 9, 2021, and the same will be opened on June 10, 2021, as per the tender details. The circuit management expects the project to enter construction during later part of 2021.  

"The launch of the tender for our solar project is an important milestone for our solar project and we invite qualified organizations from all over the world to submit their proposals for this landmark initiative," said COO of Bahrain International Circuit, Fayez Ramzy Fayez. "Together with the Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA), we look forward to working through the phases of this project for delivery by early next year."
