A 5.2 MW DC solar power plant has been connected to the grid in Armenia which module supplier Risen Energy terms as the ‘1st’ large scale solar farm that has achieved grid connection in the country.
Developed by Risen Energy’s local partner and exclusive distributor Optimum Energy LLC that also provided EPC services for the project, Vayots Arev-1 Solar Farm has come up in Vayots Dzor region of the Eastern European country. The Chinese supplier has provided its Jager Plus 144 mono PERC bifacial double glass modules for the project.
Risen Energy sees potential for solar to grow in Armenia with the government’s focus on renewable energy to reduce its dependence on expensive imported electricity. This project, it stresses, will enhance its brand influence in other overseas markets.
The 5.2 MW DC project is definitely not the largest solar farm planned in Armenia. Spanish solar PV company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures won a 55 MW project for which it secured financial support from EBRD, IFC and European Union in July 2020 clearing the way for the company to start constructing the project (see International Lenders Back 55 MW Armenia PV Project).
Earlier this year, Armenia solicited bids for 200 MW AC solar power project to be jointly owned by the successful bidder and Armenian National Interest Fund CJSC (ANIF). It was initiated by Masdar Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company hence the administration started a tender for the company that can offer an at least $0.1 per kWh lower bid than that offered by Masdar (see 200 MW Solar Tender In Armenia).
