- European Energy says its 65 MW AC solar project in Lithuania’s Anyksciai is the largest in the country
- On completion in Q4/2023, it will generate 90,000 MWh/year from over 140,000 solar modules
- The company is working on more solar farms in Lithuania’s Jonava and Skuidas region
Danish renewable energy group European Energy has announced what it terms will be the ‘biggest’ solar farm to be built to date in Lithuania and the Baltics with a fully operational capacity of 65 MW AC.
The proposed project is scheduled for grid connection in Q4/2023 in the Lithuanian Municipality of Anyksciai. It will be equipped with over 140,000 solar panels installed on trackers, on more than 120 hectares of land.
On completion, the solar farm will produce 90,000 MWh/year which is enough to cover electricity consumption of some 24,000 households in Europe, stated the company.
European Energy’s Lithuanian plans run deep as it plans to invest over €1.6 billion ($1.7 billion) in building well over 1.6 GW wind and solar farms in the country. The Danish company is working on bringing solar farms in Jonava and Skuodas regions here by 2026.
Its plans also include a €250 million ($270 million) Power-to-X facility in Lithuania to produce green hydrogen and e-methanol to provide green fuels in Lithuania and abroad.
A year ago, in June 2022, European Energy proposed to build a 110 MW solar park in another Baltic nation Latvia, calling it the largest such facility in the country (see Plans For Latvia’s ‘Largest’ Solar Power Plant).
