Russian solar power company Hevel Group has completed the construction of what it terms as the 1st standalone PV power plant in the Russian Arctic Zone through its energy service business, Hevel Energo Servis. In another 2 months, the solar hybrid project will be commissioned.
The 550 kW solar PV array with 470 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity is combined with diesel power to form 2 off-grid installations in Chukotka region to represent a combined capacity of 2.6 MW. Altogether, it is expected to generate enough clean energy for 700 households in 2 remote villages, the company added.
"Selected model will allow to keep electricity prices down and reduce municipal expenditures earlier allocated for procurement of diesel fuel," according to Hevel.
The $2.7 million facility will help local municipality reduce its diesel consumption too by 30%, translating into fuel savings worth 2,310 tons during 10-year energy service contract.
This isn't the 1st such off-grid installation for Hevel in Russia. It has already built 2.8 MW capacity in Altay, Tyva and Zabaikalsky region (see Hevel Building Off-Grid PV In Far East Russia).
