Danish renewable energy company European Energy says 500 MW of its solar and wind energy projects in Romania have secured grid connection approvals, which lends certainty to this capacity coming online in the European nation.
European Energy says these approvals bring this capacity closer to the ready-to-build (RTB) stage. Its total development pipeline in Romania exceeds 1.5 GW comprising solar and wind projects.
It is now working to secure grid connection approvals for the remaining projects in the near future.
"Securing 500 MW of grid connection approvals is a step towards achieving a leading position in the market. Romania can foster a new progressive stream of renewable energy development under the recently launched support scheme for Contracts for Difference," said Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development at European Energy, Thorvald Spanggaard.
Romania's Contracts for Difference auction targets a 5 GW combined capacity of wind and solar power projects. Calling Romania a very promising market, the Danish company expects to gain ground in the wind and solar domain here.
