  • SRP has contracted the subsidiaries of AES, EDP and NextEra Energy Resources for 500 MW solar power capacity
  • All the 3 projects with 100 MW and 2 x 200 MW capacities will be located in Arizona, US
  • Of the 500 MW capacity, Facebook alone will contract 450 MW capacity for its Mesa Data Center in Arizona

Arizona, US based utility Salt River Project (SRP) has contracted 3 new solar energy plants with 500 MW combined capacity in the state, out of which social media giant Facebook said it will offtake 450 MW capacity alone for its Mesa Data Center in Arizona.

Of the 3 facilities, 100 MW West Line Solar Project is being established as subsidiary of The AES Corporation in the city of Eloy, part of Pinal County and is expected to come online in October 2022. Facebook will offtake 50 MW of this project, with SRP using remaining 50 MW for its residential and small business customers.

Randolph Solar Park with 200 MW capacity is coming up in the city of Coolidge, Pinal County. EDP Renewables North America is scheduled to bring it online in 2023. Facebook is the sole offtaker for this project.

NextEra Energy Resources' subsidiary is bringing 200 MW Valley Farms Solar Project online by December 2023 in Coolidge. Facebook will offtake all of the power generated from the project.

For SRP, these 3 projects will contribute to its target to expand utility scale solar resources to 2.025 GW by 2025 (see Arizona Utility Doubles Utility Scale Solar Target For 2025).
