  • Itochu Corporation has landed a corporate offtake agreement with Amazon for solar power in Japan
  • Its portfolio company CEC will develop 70 MW DC/38 MW AC capacity for 700 sites of the e-commerce company
  • CEC said it will set up non-FIT, low-voltage solar power plants under the agreement by 2024

Itochu Corporation has identified itself as the supplier of solar power to e-commerce giant Amazon from 70 MW DC/38 MW AC project capacity in Japan through its Tokyo headquartered distributed solar portfolio company Clean Energy Connect (CEC).

Under the power purchase agreement (PPA) signed, CEC will develop non-feed-in-tariff (FIT) low-voltage solar power plants spread across 700 sites to supply clean energy to Amazon by 2024. CEC will execute the project in collaboration with trading house Itochu and solar power generator Ecostyle.

According to the CEC, this agreement with Amazon utilizes offsite corporate PPA service to provide renewable energy over the long term.

CEC develops small- and medium- sized solar power plants for specific customers through its off-site corporate PPA service executed for a long-term. In the future it plans to also offer storage batteries with solar and wind power generation as part of its portfolio to ensure renewable energy supply 24×7.

The world’s largest corporate offtaker of renewable energy, as part of its target to achieve renewable energy for all its global operations by 2025, Amazon recently announced signing up for 3 on-site solar projects and a new 38 MW utility scale PV project in Japan (see Amazon’s Total RE Portfolio At 2022-End Stood At 20 GW+).
