  • FRV plans to supply clean electricity under the arrangement from 5 PV plants

Amazon has agreed to receive solar power from Fotowatio Renewable Ventures' (FRV) solar PV projects in Spain to power its local operations, after the latter's owner Abdul Latif Jameel signed up Amazon Web Services (AWS) to power its digital transformation.

Part of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, FRV says of the 5 projects under the Amazon contract one is already operational and the remaining 4 are scheduled to be completed in 2024.

All the 5 projects are to generate over 1.5 TWh/year which is enough to power more than 400,000 European homes, stated the company.

FRV Iberia's Managing Director Fernando Salinas said, "This strategic collaboration with Amazon will enable us to continue contributing to the decarbonization of the electricity sector and its independence from fossil fuels to drive economic, social, and environmental advancements for future generations."

For Amazon, the deal will contribute to its commitment to become 100% renewable energy powered for its operations by 2025. In February 2023, it added 25 new renewable energy projects to its list of clean energy procurement projects in 2022. Of these 11 were located in Europe, including Spain (see Amazon's Total RE Portfolio At 2022-End Stood At 20 GW+).
