Avalon ST has acquired PASAN SA, combining their LED and xenon technologies for advanced PV testing
The duo claims their coming together is a strategic step in strengthening their PV testing portfolio
Avalon was founded by Damien Etienne and Gavin Dong, who previously worked with Meyer Burger, which owned PASAN, and TÜV Rheinland
Switzerland-based LED solar simulation and PV metrology company Avalon ST has acquired xenon-based solar simulator and precision measurement system supplier PASAN SA, previously part of the Swiss company Meyer Burger.
As part of its restructuring efforts, Meyer Burger sold off PASAN to an unidentified buyer in February 2025 (see Meyer Burger Extends Bridge Facility Amid M&A Process).
Avalon was established in 2018 by Damien Etienne and Gavin Dong, who formerly worked with Meyer Burger, PASAN and TÜV Rheinland. Now, Avalon has acquired PASAN, thus achieving what the companies call a full-circle moment.
“Bringing together the PASAN and Avalon ST family is profoundly meaningful. It’s not just a strategic step forward; it’s a full-circle journey for many of us,” said Avalon Co-Founder and CTO Etienne. “I started at PASAN as a student back in 2007, and to return now is an extraordinary journey.”
Joining Avalon for the 1983-established solar cell and module testing equipment company PASAN ‘enhances our capabilities to innovate and deliver an unparalleled array of solutions and services to our customers globally. Together, we’re entering a new era of excellence in photovoltaic testing’ according to PASAN’s Head of Sales and Service, Aurélien Ubbiali.
The merger combines PASAN’s xenon expertise with Avalon ST’s LED tech to boost innovation, offerings, and global reach, claim the 2 companies.
At the 2024 REI Expo 2024 in India, Avalon released its 3 new offerings under the Nexun series, which covers advanced PV technologies including heterojunction (HJT), PERC and perovskite solar cells, targeting the budding Indian solar PV manufacturing market. Speaking to TaiyangNews, Etienne pitched the TÜV Rheinland-verified Nexun Mobile Lab for on-site panel testing (see Swiss-Engineered PV Module Characterization Tool For Indian Market).
