BayWa r.e. AG, the renewable energy developer from Germany, has acquired French wind and solar developer Enerpole for an undisclosed amount, which expands its French project pipeline of under development assets to 2.2 GW. It comprises 1 GW of wind and 1.2 GW of solar projects.
The acquisition of Enerpole brings to the German company's kitty a 600 MW project portfolio of 300 MW of solar and 300 MW of wind capacity. The French company has been working with BayWa for quite long now. Its 8 employees will now join BayWa as the latter sets up its office in Carcassonne, the company's 7th office in France.
For BayWa, the French acquisition makes business sense since it accounts for 20% of the company's results, hence a key market, it shared. It has so far commissioned 315 MW of wind and solar farms, while it technically manages close to 600 MW. Management is also exploring development of floating PV and agrivoltaics (Agri PV) in France.
"We have a territorial approach which focuses on the challenges and needs of each region," said BayWa's Managing Director in France, Can Nalbantoglu. "The Occitanie region is 3rd in France in terms of installed wind power and 2nd in terms of installed solar capacity. Its potential and the high quality of its solar and wind resources naturally made the region a strategic one for developing renewable energy in France."
Recently, BayWa also entered the Czech distributed generation market with the acquisition of Czech solar wholesaler Solid Power Distribution with a view to expanding its solar distribution business.
