Global telecoms group Vodafone has entered into corporate solar power purchase agreements (PPA) with Spain's Iberdrola for a total of 410 GWh of solar power annually from the latter's projects located in Germany, Spain and Portugal to meet its net zero target.

In Germany, Vodafone will secure 100% power to be generated by a 56 MW solar project that's also Iberdrola's 1st German PV plant. Located in the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Boldekow Solar Plant is scheduled enter commercial operations by 2024.

Additionally, Vodafone Portugal will offtake power from the Spanish energy company's Velila Solar PV Plant in Palencia, Spain. Vodafone Spain will source 280 GWh annually from the Cedilo Solar Plant in Spain's Cáceres region.

Beyond these, the duo say they will explore more PPA opportunities and sustainability initiatives in Europe.

"These agreements across Europe underline Vodafone's commitment to ensure our customers will continue to benefit from electricity purchased 100% from renewable sources," said Vodafone Group Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer, Joakim Reiter. "They also provide Vodafone with improved energy security and long-term price certainty as we work towards achieving net-zero in our operations by 2030."
