Bord Gáis Energy has completed the acquisition of Irish solar and boiler installer Swyft Energy
It expands Bord’s solar portfolio to reach more residential, business and farming customers
Bord now aims for 10,000 solar installations over the next 5 years
Ireland-based gas and electricity supplier Bord Gáis Energy has completed the acquisition of local solar PV and boiler installation services provider Swyft Energy. This acquisition expands the Bord Gáis Energy’s capabilities in this technology for its residential, business and farming customers.
The deal was completed after final approval from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC). Bord says it now targets 10,000 solar installations over the next 5 years to contribute to its net zero aim for 2045.
“We can now begin the important work of delivering on our target of 10,000 solar installations across the country by 2030, helping more customers enjoy the benefits of solar energy while supporting the government's Climate Action Plan targets,” said Bord Gáis Energy’s Services and Solutions Director Teresa Purtill.
The Irish energy supplier says rooftop solar panels can help its customers save an average of 50% to 70% on their electricity bills. The technology can help the company compete better with the growing demand for solar energy in residential, commercial, and agricultural sectors.
Bord already operates in the solar PV space as it supplies solar energy directly to residential customers and through its partnership with the Irish Farmers’ Association. It announced the acquisition of Swyft in November 2024 for an undisclosed sum. The backing of Bord with its large customer base will help Swyft expand its operations, according to the company.
