BrightNight has gained full control of a 6 GW project pipeline under its Cordelio JV
The original JV has delivered 1.1 GW capacity out of 15 GW combined pipeline
The deal strengthens the company’s expansion in western US energy markets, said BrightNight
US-based utility-scale renewables and energy infrastructure developer BrightNight has acquired Cordelio Power’s ownership stake in their joint venture (JV), taking full control of a 6 GW portfolio of energy projects.
The transaction, says BrightNight, enables it to independently develop, finance, construct, and operate these assets, marking a significant step in its long-term growth strategy across the western US.
The 2 companies launched the JV in 2020 to develop and commercialize large-scale power projects across key Western markets, with a combined pipeline of 15 GW. Of this, the JV has commissioned or constructed 1.1 GW of capacity.
The JV will continue to retain 4 project-level assets, namely the 300 MW Box Canyon solar project (operational), the 125 MW/600 MWh BESS Biglow (fully contracted), the 200 MW/800 MWh BESS Greenwater, and the 300 MW solar with 300 MW/1,200 BESS Pioneer project (both under construction).
BrightNight said the acquisition reflects its strategic focus on scaling dispatchable clean energy solutions and deepening its presence in high-growth, capacity-constrained regions.
Recently, the company closed an $850 million corporate credit facility, reinforcing its financial strength and ability to execute large-scale projects.
“This 6 GW transaction is one of the largest in the last 12 months and enhances BrightNight's Western Interconnection presence, which includes active projects in Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Utah, California, Colorado and Wyoming,” said BrightNight’s VP Business Development and M&A Patrick Smith.
He added, “BrightNight continues to grow through acquisitions like this one and delivering its own projects into operations. It also reinforces the company's strategy of developing and operating large-scale energy infrastructure sites that serve utilities, commercial and industrial customers in the fastest-growing energy markets in the United States.”
