SoliTek modules withstand 50 mm-diameter hailstone-impacts
Durability of the modules address growing climate challenges
The modules ensure reliability and insurance compliance
Lithuanian solar module maker SoliTek has announced reaching a new milestone as its photovoltaic modules achieve Hail Class 5 certification. In rigorous testing, SoliTek’s SOLID Bifacial Framed B.108 and SOLID Solrif D B.108 modules demonstrated the ability to withstand impacts from 50 mm-diameter hailstones.
SoliTek’s cutting-edge design incorporates fully tempered glass and thicker glass layers, significantly enhancing impact resistance and module longevity. Independent studies reveal that only 40% of modules with 3.2 mm fully tempered glass fail under 50-mm hail impacts as compared to 89% for 2.0 mm heat-strengthened glass. This sets SoliTek apart in durability, ensuring reliability even in severe hailstorms.
As hailstorms increase in frequency and severity, with some hailstones in Europe reported to measure up to 190 mm in diameter, SoliTek’s durable modules offer a crucial solution for high-risk regions. The certification also positions SoliTek as a key player in markets like Switzerland, where insurance eligibility often depends on higher hail resistance standards.
Last year, SoliTek had undertaken module durability tests for solar modules with different encapsulants (see SoliTek Releases EVA Vs. POE Analysis For Solar Modules).
