Bangladesh's state-owned B-R Powergen Limited (BRPL) and China's CREC International Renewable Energy Company inked a Joint Venture at Biduyt Bhaban, official reports said. The intent of this joint venture is to build a 100 MW solar plant in at Madarganj of Jamalpur district.

While the Chinese company will have 70 % stake, the state-owned BRPL, jointly owned by Bangladesh Power Development Board and the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB), will have 30 %.

The plant will have an investment of US$170 million, and is expected to be completed by December 2025. Some 241 families will be rehabilitated under the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Power Division senior secretary under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Md Habibur Rahman, said that he hoped the country will be able to generate around 1,200 MW of electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
