Cleantech Solar Secures Corporate Solar PPA In Thailand

• Cleantech Solar has commissioned a 1 MW solar power facility for Thailand's automotive manufacturer TCSAT
• The project will generate over 27 GWh and will be used to power TCSAT's new factory in Lat Krabang Industrial Estate
• TCSAT says the project will enable it to lower its carbon emissions as well as reduce its manufacturing costs

Thailand based automotive manufacturer Tan Chong Subaru Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (TCSAT) will procure solar power under a long term power purchase agreement (PPA) the company entered with Singapore based solar PV installer Cleantech Solar.

The Singaporean company has set up a 1 MW solar power array with more than 3,000 panels on the rooftops of TCSAT's office building and assembly plant in Lat Krabang Industrial Estate. It is expected to generate over 27 GWh clean energy to power the company's new factory where TCSAT manufactures Subaru cars.

Cleantech Solar financed, designed, built and commissioned the project. It will also provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services to the facility through 20 years which is the life of the PPA. TCSAT believes solar power will enable it to reduce its carbon footprint, while also helping it lower its cost of manufacturing.

According to Cleantech Solar, it will also be aligned with the Thai government's policy to make Thailand an auto production hub in the ASEAN region with an aim to make the country one among the top 10 car manufacturers, and encourages the industry to adopt alternative energy sources.

In January 2021, Cleantech Solar installed a 2.4 MW solar power facility for US food company Cargill's Thailand operations (see US Food Producer Goes For Solar Power In Thailand). It followed up this project with another rooftop solar PV system for paints and coatings manufacturer AkzoNobel for its Malaysian and Thailand located fabs in February 2021.
