  • European Energy has announced Mitsubishi HC Capital as a new investor in the company
  • Mitsubishi is acquiring some 70 million new shares and 3 million from existing shareholders
  • The 20% stake, once final, will pump in around €700 million of capital into European Energy

Japanese investor Mitsubishi HC Capital Group has become the 2nd largest shareholder in Denmark-based renewable energy company European Energy with a 20% share capital and voting rights.

Under the strategic deal announced, Mitsubishi will subscribe to around 72 million new shares in European Energy and purchase close to 3 million shares from 3 major shareholders of the company. The deal is expected to close in H1/2024.

This will bring a capital injection of approximately €700 million to the Danish company that sees the deal as strengthening its capital base and growth potential. Present in 28 countries, European Energy says its renewable energy development pipeline, comprising wind, solar and Power-to-X technologies, exceeds 60 GW.

"The partnership with Mitsubishi HC Capital represents a significant milestone for European Energy. Their international presence and strategic mindset are key to boosting our company's growth, especially with the increasing demand for capital in this industry," said European Energy CEO and Co-Founder Knud Erik Andersen.

In November 2023, the renewables developer raised €150 million financing for its new solar and wind energy projects in 10 Northern European nations from SEB and DNB (see European Energy Raises Green Portfolio Financing).
