Key Takeaways
  • Wood Mackenzie said global solar PV tracker shipments in 2023 increased by 28% annually

  • Of the 92 GW DC shipped, Nextracker led the market share with 23%, followed by its compatriot Array

  • The Chinese PV tracker market fell to 4.3 GW DC last year with high demand for fixed-tilt products

In 2023, the global solar PV tracker shipments went up by 28% annually to 92 GW DC, with Nextracker commanding the largest market share of 23%, according to a new report by market intelligence and consultancy, Wood Mackenzie.

Array Technologies is next on the list with a 16% market share. Both US-based Nextracker and Array marked their 9th consecutive year to lead the market. Another US entity GameChange Solar expanded its market share by 55% to claim the 3rd position with 12%.

This trio accounted for more than 50% of the global tracker shipments, and 90% of the US market, reads Wood Mackenzie’s Global solar PV tracker market share report 2024. The top 10 vendors accounted for 90% of the global market share.

Other companies on the list include Spain’s PV Hardware (PVH) with 10%, China’s Arctech with 9%, and TrinaTracker of China with a 6% market share, among others.

With more than 37 GW DC capacity, the US was the largest individual market for PV trackers, reporting a 10% Year-over-Year (YoY) increase thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) boosting the buildup of large-scale projects.

Spain came next as it represented more than 50% of the European demand last year. PVH commanded the leading market share in Europe, and in Spain, it followed Solar Steel. Soltec and Axial are 2 other Spanish manufacturers in Wood Mackenzie’s top 10.

According to the report, the PV tracker market in China fell to 4.3 GW DC last year even as it installed more than 140 GW DC utility-scale projects. TrinaTracker and Arctech are the only Chinese names in the top 10 even as Chinese manufacturers hog Wood Mackenzie’s top 10 solar module manufacturing list, released recently (see JA Solar Tops Wood Mackenzie’s List With 82.9 Score).

Analysts point out that the Chinese tracker manufacturers were catering to a high demand for fixed-tilt products as low installation costs were a main driver for developers in China.

The complete tracker shipment report can be purchased on Wood Mackenzie’s website for $5,990.
