Solar cell and module producer from India, Websol Energy System Limited will set up a total of up to 1.8 GW new manufacturing capacity based on mono PERC and high efficiency TOPCon technology, after its board approved the proposal from the management.
In a stock exchange filing, Websol said the company may consider 'scrapping the current facilities to set up the new production facilities'.
In the brief announcement, the Kolkata based supplier said some power developers have approached the company with an intention to purchase the production on long term basis, without identifying the lot. It added that the 'said matter is under conciliation'.
One of the oldest solar manufacturers in India, Websol started with 1 MW installed capacity in 1993-1994 under a technical collaboration with Italy's Helios Technology.
Currently, Websol operates its production facility in Falta Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Falta West Bengal comprising 280 MW of cell and 250 MW module annual manufacturing capacity that's fully automatic and can handle 170 micron thin wafers, states the company.
