  • Bourbon Corporation has announced an offsite solar PPA for a combined 6.7 MW DC in Japan
  • A total of 4 solar plants will power its 5 factories in Niigata Prefecture from 4 projects in Niigata and Yamagata
  • Bison Energy has developed these solar plants in collaboration with Shizen Energy

Japanese confectionaries manufacturer Bourbon Corporation will use solar power to power its 5 factories in Japan's Niigata Prefecture under an offsite power purchase agreement (PPA). The 4 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 6.7 MW DC are located in Niigata and Yamagata Prefectures.

While the Kashiwazaki Matsunami Solar Plant is already supplying clean electricity to Bourbon's factories from April 1, 2024, the Fukazawa-cho Solar Project is scheduled to come online in October this year along with the Yamagata Shinjo Solar Plant. The Makifuchi PV Project has a commercial operations date of October 2025.

For Bourbon, the solar PPA is part of its efforts to reduce its carbon emissions.

Bison Energy has developed and co-invested in these projects along with Shizen Energy. Retail electricity supplier Summit Energy will supply this clean electricity to Bourbon's factories from the said projects.

Bison shared that any electricity demand not met by this PPA will be supplied by Bourbon's conventional retail electricity supplier.

These offsite solar plants are located in remote areas and will supply power to Bourbon through the power grid.
