Key Takeaways
  • TMEIC Corporation Americas will set up a utility-scale solar inverter factory in the US

  • It has picked Brookshire, Texas to locate the fab with an initial 9 GW annual capacity

  • This is aligned with the company’s goals to invest in renewable energy technology and produce in the US

Japanese industrial group TMEIC Corporation has announced plans to establish a utility-scale solar PV inverter factory in the US with an initial annual production capacity of 9 GW. Future expansions may be undertaken based on market demands, it added.

To be set up and operated by its US subsidiary TMEIC Corporation Americas, the 144,000 sq. ft. facility will be located in Brookshire, Texas, near its existing uninterruptible power supply and medium voltage drive manufacturing plant in Katy. The inverter factory is scheduled to enter commercial operations in October 2024.

A specialist company in the production of solar PV inverters and energy storage, TMEIC said it has installed over 28 GW of renewable energy systems in North America since entering the US market in 2010. This is out of more than 50 GW of renewable energy systems installed by the company globally as of July 2024.

The company is also relocating its headquarters to Houston, Texas from Roanoke, Virginia, which will be complete in March 2025.

Both these decisions, the new factory and relocation to Texas, are aligned with the group’s strategic goals for growth in renewable energy technology, domestic manufacturing in the US, and bolstering its global sustainability efforts, stated the management.

TMEIC Corporation Americas’ President and CEO Manmeet S. Bhatia said, “This strategic expansion underscores TMEIC's dedication to the renewable energy industry, advancing clean energy technology, maintaining strong client relationships, and competing on a global basis while proudly manufacturing in the United States.”

Previously, Germany’s SMA Solar announced plans for a 3.5 GW inverter manufacturing plant in the US, following Siemens, which Wisconsin to establish an 800 MW string inverter production plant in the country (see German Inverter Producer Announces US Manufacturing).
