  • Jolywood has signed a cooperation agreement with PT Len Agra Energy to develop a manufacturing plant in Indonesia
  • Plans comprise 1 GW annual production capacity for solar cells and 1 GW for modules
  • It will provide the company access to the domestic Indonesia market, as well as the US market

A new joint venture solar cell and module production company is in the making, stationed in Indonesia. Chinese solar module producer Jolywood announced its plans to launch a company to produce solar cells and modules with 1 GW annual capacity each in the Asian nation.

The joint venture will be established with Indonesian solar PV system installer and module supplier PT Len Agra Energy or its affiliates. The Indonesian counterpart of Jolywood is also active in the space of oil and gas. In a stock exchange announcement available in Chinese language, Jolywood shared having a local manufacturing base in Indonesia will not only allow it to serve the domestic market where demand for locally produced modules is growing, but also provide it access to the US PV market since the US government has suspended customs duty on PV modules produced in Indonesia.

Jolywood plans to enter the arrangement through its subsidiary Taizhou Jolywood Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. that signed a cooperation agreement with PT Len Agra Energy to jointly build the manufacturing plant on a 60:40 share basis.

The Chinese company in the March 29, 2021 dated announcement explained that this proposed joint venture is part of its international development strategy.

In March 2021, another Jolywood subsidiary Jiangsu Jolywood New material Technology placed an order for around 1.06 billion wafers saying it is to meet the company’s production and operation plans for the near future (see Jolywood To Source 1.06 Billion Mono Si Wafers).

According to Jolywood’s website, its n-type bifacial cell and module production capacity is 5.1 GW. The company is also a world leading solar backsheet manufacturer with a production capacity of 200 million m2 per year.

Jolywood participated in TaiyangNews’ High Efficiency Solar Technologies conference in December 2020 when its VP Technology Dr. Liu Zhifeng discussed the advantages of TOPCon for commercial cell/module production. His presentation can be viewed on our YouTube channel here.
