Japanese solar power project developer Pacifico Energy K.K. has hired the services of juwi Shizen Energy Inc. to build a 121 MW DC solar power plant in Sanda region of Japan's Hyogo Prefecture. Construction on site started with the achievement of financial closure with financing from MUFG Bank and Mitsubishi HC Capital.

The Japanese presence of German EPC service provider juwi, juwi Shizen Energy expects the plant to generate close to 143 million kWh of clean electricity annually to supply for a period of 18 years, from the time it is commissioned in December 2023.

Like several other utility scale solar projects in Japan, Sanda Solar Power Plant is also being constructed on the site of a former golf course. Having flourished during the 1990s, golf courses in Japan are becoming difficult to maintain for their owners some of whom have turned bankrupt. Solar power projects for these abandoned sites with shade free environment are seen as a quick fix to re-use the land and generate clean energy in the country.

Pacifico Energy too has been developing solar plants on golf courses in the past as well (see 184 MW PV From Pacifico Energy In Japan).

The 121 MW DC project is juwi Shizen Energy's largest project to date, which is a joint venture between juwi and Shizen Energy. In Japan, juwi also has a renewable energy project development company, Juwi Nippon Energy KK (see Juwi Firms Up Presence In Japan With New Entity).
