Germany headquartered global technical advisor and quality assurance provider Photovoltaik-Institut Berlin (PI Berlin) is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kiwa Germany Group which is the local presence of Netherlands based independent testing, inspection and certification company.

With PI Berlin in its pocket, Kiwa Group gets to further expand and strengthen its focus on modern testing, inspection, certification (TIC) services in the field of sustainability.

This acquisition follows Kiwa Group taking over another testing and certification company, the US based PV Evolution Labs (PVEL) a year back in May 2021 (see PV Evolution Labs Joins Netherlands Based Kiwa Group).

PI Berlin's North America Managing Director Ian Gregory said being part of Kiwa Group will enable the company to further enhance its offering in the US market by integrating its factory-focused services with PVEL.

"This acquisition represents a strong boost for PI Berlin that will undoubtedly result in both a reinforcement of the services already offered in Iberia and Latin America, and the inclusion of new capabilities thanks to the infrastructure which is already part of the Kiwa Group," said Managing Director of the Spanish subsidiary PI Berlin SL, Asier Ukar. "The enhancement will be reflected in factory, laboratory and field services, something that will benefit our customers developing greenfield projects as well as those repowering and revamping existing assets which is becoming increasingly relevant to the Spanish market."

Post the acquisition, Kiwa Deutschland GmbH will send Dr. Gero Schönwaßer to join PI Berlin's board, while Sven Lehmann and Steven Xuereb will continue to manage PI Berlin's business as active board members.
