Lightsource bp has signed a development agreement for solar PV in Germany
Its partnership with Kajoni Energie will co-dveelop 500 MW capacity over next 2-3 years
They plan to focus on projects with a minimum capacity of 20 MW, to construct on at least 20-hectare land
Britain-based global solar PV projects developer Lightsource bp has announced a new partnership for the German market. Under a development agreement with local renewable energy projects developer Kajoni Energie GmbH, it will co-develop 500 MW PV capacity in the European nation.
The duo plans to focus on projects with a minimum 20 MW capacity. Over the target period of next 2 to 3 years, they will identify sites of at least 20 hectares in size, secure the necessary project rights and achieve ready-to-build (RTB) status.
“Kajoni is firmly rooted in Lower Saxony, a region with a very high potential for solar energy. We want to further expand the German market and local partners like Kajoni are an ideal complement to our own greenfield development activities in Germany,” said Lightsource bp Germany’s Managing Director Stephan Jeznita.
Once construction begins on site, Lightsource said the projects will be 100% owned by the company.
Germany is a large market for renewables as the country targets to achieve 80% share in its electricity mix from solar PV and other renewables by 2030.
Lightsource entered Germany back in March 2023 with plans to install between 300 MW to 400 MW of new capacity annually till 2030 (see Lightsource BP Expands Footprint To Europe’s Largest Market).
